Four States Still Without Crypto Staking as Robinhood CEO Calls for Clear U.S. Rules

The CEO Vlad Tenev of Robinhood Markets reportedly enhanced pressure on U.S. lawmakers as per the reports on 15 January 2026. This called for an emergency legislative action for the clarification on cryptocurrency regulations. It also led to unlocking of access of staking services that remain unavailable in several states up until now. Due to the strict or lack of regulatory policy by the US lawmakers, Robinhood has to restrict its popular staking feature in some areas namely:

  • Maryland
  • New Jersey
  • Wisconsin
  • California

And now millions of platform users seek the availability of this feature.

The series of social media posts by Tenev highlights the need of staking, a method for crypto holders to earn rewards with the support of blockchain networks. And due to this, the feature remains in demand by the crypto community till date. Even after the company’s expansion of crypto services and enhancing staking services in other regions, this feature remains inaccessible to customers in the four states mentioned above. Tenev calls it “Regulatory gridlock.”

As per Tenev the regulatory uncertainty at home is an hindrance of progress for U.S. customers. Whereas, in other countries the launch of other advanced features such as stock tokens with other innovative products took place.

The need of setting up and enacting a comprehensive crypto market structure bill is a must for the U.S. market now. The bill must have:

  • Clear Definitions
  • Consumer Protection Laws

This will enable the platform to innovate more without the fear of inconsistent enforcement.
